Thankful Turkeys

Students made thankful turkeys for Thanksgiving. Students were really thoughtful in their responses!

Praise

This is a very interesting video of how both parents and teachers can reflect on the way they give praise.

In math, students were rolling dice to determine what numbers they were either going to subtract or add.

Using adjectives to describe our turkeys. Sooo fun to read!

So excited they received "The Golden Dustpan" for having the cleanest classroom in school. They work so hard to clean up everyday. :)

TGIF! - Thank God It's First Grade!: Close Reading in 1st Grade & A Freebie: Close reading. Ya heard of it?! My old district and new district have been all about it since adopting the Common Core.  When I was...

Welcome!

This page has been created for parents and teachers to view what my first grade class has been learning. I also want to share the many resources that I've found to be very helpful.

This week in reading we have been working on reading short vowel e words through use of poems and other short decodable books. We also have been working on adding adjectives to our writing. For Thanksgiving, we are making our own turkey stories using adjectives and they are coming out really cute. I will be posting some pictures in the next couple of days. We have also begun finding the main idea in passages and books we have been reading. This has been quite a difficult process but with practice we will get there. :) In addition to finding the main idea, students have been learning how to close read difficult passages to determine meaning and unknown vocabulary. We are making connections to multiple words we are learning.

In math, students are working on subtracting from sums of 0-20 through use of doubles, number lines, money, and so much more. We are also beginning to find the relationship between subtraction and addition through fact families. After we get done with our subtraction chapter, we will begin place value. This is actually my favorite to teach!

I will be posting periodically so be on the look out for resources and pictures of what we are doing in class.
